Avenue Q closing in Broadway

I just spotted over “Flying High with Wicked” that Avenue Q is closing in Broadway.

The Tony Award-winning Avenue Q — which is celebrating it’s sixth anniversary on Broadway — is due to close on September, producers announced. The show that appears at John Golden Theatre will have it last performance in Sept. 13th after having 2,534 performances.

Avenue Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, a book by Jeff Whitty and direction by Jason Moore. The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, The Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.

According to Playbill, the show has capitalized at $3.5 million, but recouped its full investment in only ten months on Broadway. As of June 21, the musical has grossed $117,009,852 and has returned $23,500,000 to its investors to date.
