After several seasons in major cities of Australia -including Melbourne and Sydney- the smashing -hit Broadway musicals Wicked will open at Burswood Theatre on June 19.
More than 850 Wicked shows have been performed in Australia so far, and has developed a cult following in Australia. Plenty of people had seen the show more than once, with over 1.1 million Australians having enjoyed the musical.
The production will star Bert Newton as the Wizard of Oz, Perth actress Lucy Durack as the Good Witch of the North, and Jemma Rix who plays the Wicked Witch of the West.
The show has raked in more than $2 billion and be seen by 25 million people around the world.
Newton said that while many theatre productions failed to travel across the Nullabor to Perth due to costs, it was important that Wicked play in the west.
“It deserves to come to Perth and I think because it’s such a big show it will find a wonderful home in the theatre in which it will be playing,” he said.
Performances will be held from June 19 to July 17, 2011, on Wednesdays at 1pm and 8pm, Thursday and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm and Sundays at 1pm and 6.30pm.
Tickets for the show that will play at the Burswood Theatre are on sale now through Ticketek.
