Wicked West End cast join children at dance workshop


ASPIRING stage talent had the chance to work with West End professionals when a Peterborough dance and drama studios held a series of workshops.

Youngsters aged between seven and 13 recently took part in a week-long “West End Boot Camp” at Tu Danse Studios, in Newark Road.

Each day, West End cast members taught the budding musical theatre stars extracts from shows such as Mamma Mia!, Wicked, The Wizard of Oz or Les Miserables, using original choreography.

For the end of the week, a 30-minute performance was put together and presented to friends and family.

Tu Danse Studios owner Anita Winter said: “It was a challenging, but very enjoyable workshop which gave the students the wonderful opportunity of working with these amazing professional performers who not only taught the extracts but also gave the youngsters a background into the history of each show and held a Q and A session for them.”

The previous week, children aged from five to 10 took part in “Aladdin Jnr”, an adaptation of the Academy award-winning Disney film.

Professional actress Nichola Sneddon, who counts Mamma Mia! among her credits, led the five-day workshop.

Youngsters worked on songs such as A Whole New World and A Friend Like Me before going on to perform in front of loved ones at the end of the week
