Louise Dearman will rejoin WICKED in the West End…this time as Elphaba

Louise Dearman will become the first-ever performer to portray both leading characters, Glinda and Elphaba, when on Monday 29 October, 2012 she greenifies herself for the West-End version of smashing-hit musical WICKED.

Dearman played Glinda from March 2010 to December 2011, and will return to star as Elphaba to replace Rachel Tucker.

Louise Dearman commented: “As an actress, you strive to challenge yourself to play as many diverse roles as possible throughout your career, and right now I feel like the luckiest girl in the history of musical theatre. I still can’t quite believe that in two months’ time I’ll be back in Wicked, but this time I won’t come and go by Bubble, I’ll be on a broomstick!”

UK Executive Producer Michael McCabe said: “From her wonderful performance as Glinda, audiences already know that Louise possesses a stunning voice and remarkable acting abilities, so we are genuinely excited to now welcome her back to Wicked as Elphaba. We have all been awestruck by the way Louise has channelled her incredible talents to inhabit this iconic role, and I’ve no doubt that audiences will be equally thrilled”.

The multi award-winning Wicked has already been seen by over 4.5 million people since its West End premiere in 2006 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. It is now one of the Top 20 longest-running musicals in West End history.

Willemijn Verkaik is WICKED Personality of the Year 2011

And the winner is… Willemijn Verkaik!

After an intense three-week poll and by obtaining 55% of the total 590,000 votes, a new record for BroadwayisWICKED, you have elected the current Elphaba for the Dutch production of WICKED as your new “WICKED Personality of 2011“.

This dutch actress and singer, Willemijn Verkaik, as many of her fans have already stated in the comments section is the only performer to sing Defying Gravity in three languages (Dutch, German and English). She has also become the longest-running lead Elphaba in the history of the show and has closed the German production to recently open the Dutch one.

Second Place, and very close with 40% of the total votes, came our 2010 Personality of the Year, Teal Wicks who recently finished her peformances in the WICKED family on Broadway. Third place was for yet another Elphaba, stand-by performer for that role in the San Francisco production, Felicia Ricci.

Then Anne Brummel, Dee Roscioli, Rachel Tucker, Tiffany Haas, Etai BenShlomo, Chandra Lee Schwartz and Jackie Burns, to count the final top 10.

This has certainly been one of the most wonderful and amazing polls we have ever done in BroadwayisWICKED. I wanted to thank you all for participating and bringing so much fun to this race!

Congratulations to Willemijn Verkaik (and her unbelievable fans!) for becoming WICKED Personality of the Year!
